How to find ancient debris easily? ›

It is found in the Nether most commonly at Y=15, although mining at lower levels is safer due to lower risk of mining into a lava ocean. While strip mining is still a potential and straightforward way of mining for ancient debris, using explosives is a lucrative possibility due to its high blast resistance.

Many players veer off in new directions either due to the terrain or a lack of success. Secondly, ancient debris is concentrated at Y level 8 to 22. If players aren't within those coordinates, they're unlikely to find anything.

As of Java Edition 1.16.5, on average they generate 1.56 ores per chunk. Given this number, and that there are 32768 blocks in a chunk (16×128×16), there is approximately a 0.004% chance that any randomly selected block will be an ancient debris block.

So first of all you want some fire resistance potions just to be sure that you don't dig into a lava lake. The most efficient way of uncovering Netherite ore is by Either using TNT Explosions to make a long Cave or using bed explosion.

These structures are packed with piglins and hoglins, who won't be too happy to see you. But if you can survive their onslaught, then you'll likely head home with a good amount of ancient debris in your inventory.

Details. Get additional netherite scraps by using a fortune pickaxe on ancient debris. For balance, you don't get xp from mining ancient debris, and netherite is slightly more expensive (five scraps instead of four).

Here's a massive disclaimer, though: ancient debris is really, really, really rare. The bedsplosion trick is costly in terms of wool and wood, but way faster and more efficient than breaking fifty diamond pickaxes.

Once smelted into Netherite Scrap, it is used to craft Netherite Ingots, the highest tier of material, which can be used in a Smithing Table to upgrade diamond tools and armor. 36 blocks of Ancient Debris must be mined to upgrade a full set of gear (as it requires 9 Netherite Ingots).

The Fortune enchantment does not work on ancient debris, just like iron and gold ore. It also doesn't drop any experience.

Players should head down to the Y-level -14 in the Nether then begin mining away with their multiple pickaxes. Ancient Debris spawns much more often on the edge of loaded chunks, meaning players on Minecraft Java Edition can use hotkeys to see where chunks are loaded in and mine constantly on the edge of them.

Can you break ancient debris with iron? ›

Ancient debris can only be mined using diamond and Netherite pickaxes. If the player uses any other pickaxe, not only will the ancient debris take an unreasonable amount of time to break, the ore will not drop as an item that the players can collect.

To get Netherite you'll need to mine Ancient Debris first, which can only be found in the Nether. When you enter the Nether you'll need to mine until you reach Y level 8-15. Most Ancient Debris will spawn at Y level 15.

Ancient debris requires a diamond or netherite pickaxe to harvest. Using anything else will take a very long time and will drop nothing anyway. Ancient debris will not generate in explored chunks of already generated worlds before 1.16.

How to find Netherite in Minecraft. Like Diamonds, Ancient Debris spawns most frequently at a specific height, which is referred to as the "y-level." For Netherite, the best y-level is between 8 and 22.

Lastly, you can mine for netherite using beds. This is dangerous, but it is a great way to find ancient debris if you do not have access to gunpowder. To mine with beds, you will need to manually mine out a 4x1 tunnel, placing a bed in the last two spots, as shown in the image above.
