Anthony Charles Galatz, known affectionately as Tony to his friends and loved ones, embarked on his final journey on January 21, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of his family, friends, in the familiar comforts of our home in Hibbing, Minnesota just months after the passing of his younger brother, Marty Galatz. They left behind their four brothers: Louie Galatz, George Galatz, Frank Galatz, and Jeffrey Galatz. Tony and Marty were preceded in death by their parents George Galatz (2011) and Evelyn Galatz (2010).
Born on March 28, 1965, in the same cherished town as his wife, Kris. Tony and Kris were united in marriage on June 10, 2023 at the Androy Hotel in Hibbing. Tony’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, laughter, and the simple joys of everyday adventures, not just one of places and dates. It is a narrative rich with the love he shared with his wife, Kristine Elaine Galatz, and the proud legacy he leaves behind in his stepdaughter, Sierrarose Nelson; his daughters: Jackie Olson, Charisma Lappi, and Jennifer; and his sons Anthony and Austin Galatz.
When I think of Tony, I think of how loving, funny, and selfless he was. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the golden threads of family moments and the laughter of his beloved grandchildren: Marley and Jordy Olson (children of Jackie and Braedyn Olson); Jax, Easton, and Beckett Galatz (children of Anthony Galatz); and Marceline Yellis (daughter of Charisma Lappi); who were all his pride and joy. He also had two generations of nieces and nephews: Shayla & Travis Galatz (children of George and Wendy Galatz); Britni, Tesla, Danica, and Chaz Galatz (children of Frank Galatz) all among the first generation. Carter, Mia, and Savannah Mattson (children of Britni and Craig Mattson); Milo and Walker Dobson (children of Tesla Galatz), Parker and Theodore Tyminski (children of Danica Galatz and Andrew Tyminski); and Liberty, Mason, Ulric, and Khale (children of Chaz Galatz and Jaclynn Raquell) all among the second generation. The love he had for his family will never go unnoticed.
An alumnus of Hibbing High School and Hibbing Vo-Tech, Tony’s education laid the foundation for a life of diligence and dedication. Yet it was not his work history or association involvement that he held in high regard, but rather the strong bonds he forged and the many lives he touched. Tony was a man who knew that the true measure of success is found in the hearts we touch and the joy we bring to others.
Tony's passions were as vibrant as his personality. He was an ardent fan of the Minnesota Gophers (hockey, basketball, and football), Minnesota Wild, NASCAR, and the Minnesota Vikings (Skol!). He found excitement and camaraderie in the spirit of the game. Tony’s interests extended beyond the roar of the engines and the thrill of sports. He cherished the simple, unscripted moments spent with friends and family, embracing the beauty of the world around him.
Over the years, Tony and Kris transformed the mundane into magic, making every outing, whether it be to doctor appointments or the local dollar store, a cherished “date day.” Together, they found paradise in places as unassuming as the car wash or the gas station. Their shared adventures to Carey Lake were not just a means of travel, but a journey into the heart of nature. Tony lived by a philosophy: Always seek the light, even in the face of life’s inevitable challenges. His life was a reminder that joy can be found in the smallest of moments, and love is the most powerful force of all.
As we bid farewell to Anthony (Tony) Charles Galatz, let us carry forward the essence of his being- the laughter, the love, and the unshakable belief that every day holds the potential for wonder. Tony's journey on this earth may have reached its sunset, but the warmth of his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, like the eternal glow of the northern star, leading us home to the memories we hold dear.
Tony, your story does not end here. It lives on in every life you’ve touched, every smile you’ve inspired, and every moment of joy you’ve shared. Your legacy is one of boundless love and infectious laughter, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Rest in peace, dear Tony, your memory will forever be a beacon of hope and happiness in the lives of all you touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Range Funeral Home in Hibbing at 11:00 a.m.
