Star Revenge is a series of SM64 hacks made by BroDute that began with the release of Star Takeover in 2012.
There are 17 hacks officially in the current Star Revenge timeline, and a total of 24 entries when including remakes. The latest entry, Star Revenge 4.9: Adulterated Reality, was released in 2022. However, a more recent hack by the creator contained many references the Star Revenge series, and could arguably be considered to be a part of the Star Revenge universe.

The Scepter of Faith[]

At the heart of the Star Revenge story is a magical artefact called the Scepter of Faith. This mystical item had two guardians assigned to it- BroDute and Timerock- who are tasked with safeguarding it. Why? Because the Scepter of Faith has the power to grant wishes, even impossible ones.
Despite the existence of the Scepter of Faith being known to residents of both the Main Universe and Parallel Universe, there is no mirror version of it- it's wholly unique, and very powerful. With it, anyone could easily deliver lasting damage to the timeline with barely a thought, as proven by Reverse Mario himself after seizing it in Star Revenge 0: Galaxy of Origins.
At the start of the Star Revenge story, the Scepter of Faith is stolen by one of its very own guardians- Reverse Timerock. This leads to its other guardian, Reverse BroDute, enlisting Reverse Mario's help in retrieving the Scepter of Faith. Unfortunately for Reverse BroDute, Reverse Mario has his own agenda- something he doesn't realise until it's too late.
Story In Full[]
The Star Revenge story begins with the aptly named Galaxy of Origins. This hack introduces Reverse Mario in his own timeline, and tells us more about the kind of life he leads in Luigi's shadow. Many characters he can talk to around his home are shocked to see him out and about- concerned, even, going so far as to consol him with the knowledge that Luigi is more than sufficient at protecting the Mushroom Kingdom.
Reverse Mario moves on down to the docks, where the BroDute of this timeline, Reverse BroDute, is hanging around. They exchange a minimal amount of small talk before Reverse BroDute suggests Reverse Mario lends him a hand with something. As one of the Guardians of the Scepter of Faith, Reverse BroDute has a duty to ensure its safety and prevent any theft of this powerful artefact. Unfortunately, one of his fellow guardians, Reverse Timerock, has himself stolen the Scepter of Faith and fled to a far off galaxy with it. Reverse BroDute is powerful enough to make chase, but still requests Mario help him with retrieving, including securing their means of space travel by retrieving the spaceship's key from Reverse Bowser.
Supposedly, Reverse BroDute can't do much while he's far away from the Scepter. He requests that Reverse Mario go and collect some Stars from the planets they can access from the Rainbow Road, in preparation for whatever sealed doors Reverse Timerock has put in their way. Together, they track down Reverse Timerock to the Tower of Tempora. It takes the power of 50 Stars to enter the Tower of Tempora, so Reverse Mario sure does have his work cut out for him. Although, even just at the entrance, Reverse BroDute finds himself to be in close enough range of the Scepter to attempt to weaken Reverse Timerock, which would allow for Reverse Mario to defeat him.
By the time Reverse Mario has finished platforming his way up the perilous architecture inside the Tower of Tempora, Reverse BroDute has taken advantage of the distraction his partner has created for Timerock, and finished weakening him. At the door leading to Timerock's chambers, Reverse BroDute excitedly ponders on what they should wish for once they've obtained the Scepter of Faith.
[?]
Reverse Mario has been living in the shadow of his brother, Reverse Luigi, for as long as he can remember. Everytime he so much as leaves the house, the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom belittle him, whether intentionally or not. Upon finally catching up to and defeating Reverse Timerock, Reverse Mario seizes the Scepter of Faith, and wishes for himself to become the "main character", so that he can finally stop living in Reverse Luigi's shadow.
Reverse Mario's wish is fulfilled. He switches places with the Mario of another timeline (the Main Timeline) in which he is the "main character", leaving the Parallel Universe behind. When he arrives in the Main Timeline, ten years have suddenly passed since the Mario of the Main Timeline had disappeared. Reverse Mario suddenly finds himself swept up in saving the Mushroom Kingdom from an invasion of the Kedama's, thus fulfilling his egocentric fantasy.
Back in the Parallel Universe, Reverse Mario's actions have left a trail of chaos, and the powerful magic of the Scepter of Faith has had some unintended side effects. After his initial realisation that his partner has betrayed him, Reverse BroDute takes a moment to lament on how everyone he has come to trust has betrayed him. Perhaps it was the pain of yet another betrayal, or the dangerous influence from the Scepter of Faith, but despite his attempt to shake off his sadness, Reverse BroDute still falls victim to an overwhelming surge of negative emotions. In his fury, he lashes out at Mario and seals him away inside a card, only later realising that the Mario he lashed out at was not Reverse Mario, but rather the displaced Mario of the Main Timeline.

SR1.5 STR | - Bowser finds himself the unwilling puppet of the Blue Stars, but still finds some downtime during his possession for him to leave a sign for Mario advising him on how best to beat the final level
- Blue Stars use Bowser as a mouthpiece, and in B3, are furious at? Mario. They demand he return the stars he stole from them and claim to be invincible, which clearly aint true lmao.

Characters[]
Main Universe Welcome to the familiar side of the timeline. Things here make sense- or at least they did, until the Parallel Universe came knocking. | Parallel Universe Welcome to the hostile side of the multiverse. The Parallel Universe, also referred to as the Reverse Timeline, is more corrupted than the Main Universe. Otherwise peaceful areas are now dangerous environments, often lethal and left to crumble. |
Mario Mario The Mario we all know and love, and the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. What's there to say that hasn't already been said? Unfortunately, he's quickly swept up in the multi-dimensional shenanigans of Reverse Mario and his enemies, and as a result, spends most of his time locked away in the form of a playing card. As for whether or not Mario Mario is still alive in that card... well, his eyes don't leave much to the imagination.
Luigi Mario While he may be overshadowed by Mario, Luigi is still more than capable of fighting the same enemies head-on, and willingly takes action when his beloved brother goes missing.
BroDute Also known as "Future BroDute". A squidkid with a love of Hawaiian shirts, with a set of powers that enable him to forge new Stars. BroDute is one of the guardians of the Scepter of Faith, and is equipped with an impressive range of powers, including shapeshifting. He has been known to take on the form of a Toad, as one of his disguises for a scheme.
Timerock One of the guardians of the Scepter of Faith, and the Spirit of Death. Timerock is capable of shapeshifting, and has been known to take the form of a black/darkly-hued Bob-omb Buddy. He openly admits to having enjoyed killing Mario in the past, but is able to put aside his sadism to work towards a shared goal, should the need arise.
Luigi Mario lorem ipsum
Missingno The pet of BroDute, and general burden to the Toad's of Castle Blaudia. Missingno has been known to take the form of a glitchy-looking Wiggler, as well as a glitchy King Bob-omb lookalike.
Prince Bob-omb A would-be thief of the Scepter of Faith, if it wasn't for that meddling Luigi!
| Mario Luigi Mostly known as "Reverse Mario".This version of Mario lives in the shadow of his far more popular brother who, much like the Mario of the Main Universe, spends most of his time adventuring and wowing the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom. Reverse Mario is dissatisfied with his life, and is looking for an opportunity to be the star of his own life. | |
Luigi Luigi The hero of the Mushroom Kingdom- but not quite as we know him. While this Luigi is off adventuring and saving the Princess for the hundredth time, he will often leave his brother notes in their house requesting he do some chores while he's gone. | File:ReverseLuigi.png |
Reverse BroDute One of the guardians of the Scepter of Faith. A powerful being who's unfortunately prone to extreme mood swings, courtesy of the Scepter of Faith's curses. Reverse BroDute is somewhat of a spiteful individual, who frequently taunts Reverse Mario without prompting. Along with his Main Timeline counterpart, he has been known to plan out elaborate forms of revenge, so much so that they often span multiple timelines and have intense consequences. Like the other guardians of the Scepter of Faith, Reverse BroDute has the power to shapeshift- he has been known to take on the form of a certain large and fast Koopa.
Reverse Timerock One of the two guardians of the Scepter of Faith, and the Spirit of Death. Reverse Timerock can be visually distinguished from his Main Universe counterpart by his blood-red colouration. | File:ReverseTimerock.png |
Reverse Bowser This Bowser is a fairly chill dude- he doesn't seem to have any beef with Mario, although he's understandably annoyed when Mario interrupts his down time by throwing him into a bomb. He seems to spend a lot of time watching TV, and holding onto keys for important things, like spaceships.
Reverse Missingno This Missingno is seemingly far more independant from his Main Universe counterpart, and as such, doesn't tend to get dragged into the ongoing multi-dimensional conflict. Reverse Missingno has only been known to take the form of a glitchy King Bob-omb lookalike.
|
Kedowser The leader of the Kedamas, a force of enemies intent on invading the Mushroom Kingdom.
Scriosadh A sentient Star created by BroDute, with its own agenda.
Significant Locations[]
Castle Blaudia |
Castle Blaudia is a landmark in the Blue Realm that plays a similar role to Peach's Castle. It serves as a hub world to which most other areas connect, but is far more equipped for day-to-day life than Peach's Castle. Most rooms in Castle Blaudia have a clear purpose, and are outfitted with adequate appliances and plumbing. The more desirable aspects of Castle Blaudia have attracted more than a few Toad's, prompting many of them to move there while clamouring about Castle Blaudia's amenities, and occassionally talking ill of Peach's Castle. |
Reverse Castle Blaudia |
The Castle Blaudia of the Reverse Timeline is very different to its counterpart in the Main Timeline. Reverse Castle Blaudia is a sinister, dungeon-like complex with many hazards in its dark halls. At its heart are ruins of another iteration of Castle Blaudia, one that found itself meeting an early demise. Most of its halls have open pits of a burning blue substance, and only a collection of platforms floating above it. While Reverse Castle Blaudia has been known to act as a hub world[1], it is a largely hostile environment that has played host to a number of traps and schemes. |
Peach's Castle |
It's Peach's Castle, but not quite as we know it. Supposedly, the original was inadvertently burned down by Mario while trying to cook some spaghetti[2], and the entire Castle needed rebuilding. Talking to the Toad's living in the new Peach's Castle will reveal that despite the significant upgrade to the Castle's amenities, it came with the drawback of locking most doors behind bizzarely high Star requirements- most notably, the kitchen now requires 70 Stars to enter. Dissatisfaction with Peach's Castle eventually leads to a large number of Toad's moving away to the Blue Realm to work at Castle Blaudia instead. |
The Dream Fountain |
It is from here that Kedowser commands his invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom. |
